Arlington Homebuyer’s Assistance Program

The Arlington Homebuyers’ Assistance Program (AHAP) provides down payment and closing cost assistance to low income, first-time homebuyers.  Downpayment and closing cost assistance is provided in the form of a forgivable loan of up to $20,000 based on each applicant’s underwriting and subsidy layering assessment. The loan is 0% interest and is payable only if you sell, refinance with cash-out, or lease your home during the affordability period, typically five years.

Neighborhood Lift Program: 

NeighborhoodLIFT® offers homebuyers $15,000 grants for home down payments in the city of Dallas and Tarrant County; additional benefits for veterans, military, teachers and first responders.

America's Home Grant: 

Newly expanded, this Bank of America program now offers a lender credit of up to $7,500 that doesn’t have to be repaid. The credit can be used to permanently buy down the interest rate or towards non-recurring closing costs, such as title insurance and recording fees, or to permanently buy down the interest rate. The grants are available in 39 markets and will be expanded nationwide.

Chase's Homebuyer Grant:

Qualified buyers will be eligible to receive a $2,500 grant along with an additional $500 available for customers getting a DreaMaker mortgage after they complete a homebuyer education course.

Housing Rehabilitation Program

The Housing Rehabilitation Program helps income qualified homeowners repair their homes. Applicants must wn and reside in the home to be repaired, and the home must be within the City limits of Arlington. For qualified homeowners, the City will fund 100% of the eligible repairs up to $24,500.

Examples of repairs are:

  • Electrical, heating and plumbing
  • Structural such as roofs, porches, windows, doors and foundation
  • Other repairs needed to meet City codes
  • Replacement of essential built-in appliances

Architectural Barrier Removal Program

Based on available funding, the Housing Modifications for persons with disabilities and the elderly assists low-income individuals and families with housing modifications that allow for greater mobility. There is no cost to have the modifications completed at your home.

Examples of Eligible Modifications:

  • Installations of ramps, safety rails, and “grab bars”. (see Example of ramp
  • Widening of door openings and adaptation of door handles
  • Adaptations of kitchens and bathrooms
  • Installation of non-skid flooring

Emergency Repair Program

Based on available funding, the Emergency Repair Grant for Homeowners provides low-income homeowners with a one-time grant, up to $5,000 per three-year period, for emergency repairs to their home. An emergency is a situation or condition that occurred recently (generally within two weeks) without warning, that is detrimental to or a threat to life, health, or safety, and requires immediate action (i.e., 3 business days).

Examples of Eligible Repairs:

  • Air conditioning/heating units
  • Roof
  • Plumbing
  • Electrical
