Census Background

As mandated by the U.S. Constitution, the Census aims to count every person living in the United States once every ten years.

An accurate Census helps to ensure fair representation at all levels of government and provides the most reliable and complete data for research, decision making, and planning for public and private sector initiatives, including governments, universities, non-profit organizations, medical facilities, and the business community.

Results of the Census impact the federal funding a city will receive over the next decade. More than $800 billion in federal investment across the country is allocated by data gathered from the census. In Texas, for every person that doesn't respond, an estimated $1,500 is diverted to other communities, so it is imperative that every person gets counted.
