Dream Builders is a show on MyArlingtonTV that highlights the ways our community is helping kids dream big, nurture their creativity, polish their skills and develop the tools they need to achieve their American Dream as young adults.
The latest Dream Builders episode features students participating in an Arlington Museum of Art summer camp.
The museum is currently home to a large collection of Keith Haring's work. Campers took their inspiration from the pop artist's iconic designs to create their own pieces.
Artist Manuel Garcia, Jr. helped students understand the inspiration behind Haring's work.
Ousley Junior High School student Jordyn Chapman dreams of being an interior designer and says the camp will help make that possible. "You have to know how to put together different colors and how to match things and put things together to make one final project," Chapman said.
Garcia, Jr. said art opened doors for him to live his dreams, and he's confident it can do the same for camp participants.
"Maybe there will be future art teachers or future fashion designers, graphic designers or animators," Garcia, Jr. said.
"Keith Haring: Against All Odds" is on display at Arlington Museum of Art through September 15. Click here for more information.
