So far this year, Mission Arlington has provided food for 48,000 families, or 171,822 individuals. That represents a 364 percent increase over the same time period last year, largely attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic, the nonprofit said.

The next time you grocery shop or place an order for grocery delivery, consider adding a few extra pantry essentials to your cart and help Mission Arlington continue feeding other families in need.

So far this year, Mission Arlington has provided food for 48,000 families, or 171,822 individuals. That represents a 364 percent increase over the same time period last year, largely attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic, the nonprofit said.

“The need for the food is greater than we’ve ever seen in 34 years of helping people,” Executive Director Tillie Burgin said. “With our current situation, with people losing their jobs and not able to get out because they are quarantined or they fear getting out, we are delivering as much food out to peoples’ homes as we are having folks who are coming through here.”

Mission Arlington said it appreciates community food donations, especially non-perishable pantry staples such as peanut butter, jelly, cereal, soups and canned goods. Donations can be made online or dropped off at 210 W. South Street in Downtown between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The nonprofit is also currently collecting school supplies.

“We couldn’t do this without the support of this community, and we are truly grateful for everyone,” said Jim Burgin with Mission Arlington. “Truly, anything people give will make a difference.”
