River Legacy Nature Center announced a new exhibit today. "The Art and Science of Arachnids," a limited-time, interactive exhibit that features 100 live arachnids, like spiders and scorpions, and their place in human culture opens Dec. 1, 2020 and runs until Feb. 27, 2021.

Visitors will explore human-arachnid cultural connections through activities like building robots, conducting science experiments, creating your own arachnid art and more. Arachnids featured in modern-day medicine, film and music, and in stories and folklore are also highlighted. The exhibit showcases the largest arachnid display in North America, including endangered species like the Tiger tarantula, Mexican Red Knee tarantula, the alien-like Tailless Whip scorpions, and beautiful Peacock tarantulas!

“Despite their creepy, crawly reputation, arachnids are fascinating, diverse, and essential to the planet’s ecosystems.” Says Shannon Porter, Event and Exhibit Manager. “The goal of the exhibit is to make arachnids less scary and more interesting, because they are amazing creatures, and they do a lot of beneficial things for us. This exhibit offers something for everyone, from weaving your own web underneath the legs of an eight-foot orb spider model to safely meeting a Vinegaroon scorpion!”

Ticket prices are $5 for adults; $3 for children; $4 for seniors; free for 2 and under. Visit the exhibit during the month of December for the opportunity to receive a Kid’s Meal Digital Offer Card for use at Chick-fil-A North Collins Street!
