Tips and Tools to Prevent Egret Rookeries

Hundreds of Egrets begin migrating to Arlington each year, typically beginning in February, in search of a favorable nesting area to form their rookery. History shows that these birds appear to choose the same location each year. When establishing a nest, Egrets are drawn to large, well-established trees, with dense networks of limbs conducive for protection when nesting.

Want to avoid the noise, odor and other nuisances that come with rookeries? Arlington Animal Services has a variety of helpful tips to help residents discourage these birds from taking up residence in your neighborhood

New Water Rate for 2022

Arlington’s budget for fiscal year 2022 increases the average residential water and sewer bill by about $1.84 a month, or about 6 cents a day.

Though the budget year started Oct. 1, 2021, the Arlington City Council has authorized money from the Water/Wastewater Rate Stabilization Fund to be used to delay the water/sewer rate increases until Jan. 1, 2022, thus reducing the annual increase by 25 percent. The 2022 rates and fees can be accessed by clicking here.

Arlington Water Utilities residential rates for water usage are some of the lowest in North Texas. Even with the small increase, there are several ways to keep costs down this year:

  1. Sign up for e-billing at ArlingtonTX.gov/KnowYourH2O and receive a one-time bill credit of $15.
  2. Watch your water usage closely during the winter months. Arlington Water Utilities uses water usage during the winter months to determine the highest monthly amount you'll pay for sanitary sewer costs in the summer months. At $5.28 for each 1,000 gallons of sewer flow per month, the savings from decreasing your maximum sewer charge can add up.
  3. Visit ArlingtonTX.gov/KnowYourH2O and sign up for high bill and high usage alerts.
