A Night at the Apollo Without Leaving Arlington

The Arlington Museum of Art is continuing its celebration of the Harlem Renaissance with a tribute to The Apollo Theater, a historic venue located in New York City.

Get your tickets for " Amateur Night at the Arlington Museum of Art' on Saturday, August 17, from 7-9 p.m. Amateur acts from the Arlington area will compete for the top prize-$1000 in cash. Audience participation will decide the top three winners.

For several decades, The Apollo was a hotbed for young performers getting their start in show business. Greats such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, James Brown & The Famous Flames and The Jackson 5 got their start at the Apollo.

This event is held in conjunction with the museum' s current show, the Harlem Renaissance, featuring a William H. Johnson: An American Modern exhibit sponsored by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES), courtesy of Morgan State University, and co-sponsored by Ford Motor Company.
