More adoptable cats are finding homes, thanks to a growing partnership with PetSmart. This new innovative way to adopt shelter cats began on May 2. This is purr-fect timing with June being Adopt-a-Shelter Cat month. TheArlington Animal Services (AAS) team is excited to work with Arlington Highlands PetSmart and PetSmart Charities on this new venture.

The PetSmart Highlands location houses five adoptable cats daily and runs specials along with the animal shelter. The cats showcased at PetSmart are fully vaccinated and spayed or neutered. AAS volunteers clean and care for the adoptable cats twice a day. If you or someone you know loves cats, June is an especially great time to adopt, while cat adoption fees are $25. Since the beginning of May, 14 cats have been adopted at PetSmart that may not have otherwise found homes.

The shelter cats seem to love this new arrangement. PetSmart staff and visitors interact with them daily. The PetSmart Store Manager, Buddy Child is excited to have the new partnership with the AAS center. AAS Manager, Chris Huff states, "The mobile adoption unit, made possible by a grant award from the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation, has adopted over 500 dogs at the Arlington Highlands PetSmart since 2012. We are hoping for the same type of success with our shelter cats."
