As summer rolls in, June is a perfect time for celebration, community, and fun in the sun! Mark your calendar for these upcoming June events with Arlington Parks and Recreation.

 

Richard Simpson Park Phase II Open House – Wednesday, June 1

Arlington Parks and Recreation is excited to receive resident feedback on Phase II development plans for Richard Simpson Park at this come-and-go open house! The meeting is set for 6-7 PM on June 1 in the Gary D. Harl Community Room at the Arlington Police Department West District Service Center. Residents are invited to provide input on amenities such as playground areas, pavilion, event gardens, pathway connections, picnic stations, fishing pier, parking lot improvements, landscaping, and more.

Kick Off the 2022 Swim Season – Early June

Arlington Parks and Recreation’s 2022 swim season will begin under a modified schedule with pools opening on various weekends in late May and early June. As currently scheduled, at least two outdoor pools will be open every day of the week following the Bad Königshofen Family Aquatic Center's opening on June 11.

Juneteenth Cookout – Thursday, June 16

Come out to East Library and Recreation Center and celebrate Juneteenth with a laid-back cookout! Now a federal holiday, Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. We invite you to learn a little bit about the history and enjoy an afternoon cookout beginning at 1 PM. This event is for ages 55+ and is free to attend with a Senior Activity Pass. Pre-registration required.

MLK Day of Service Festival and Juneteenth Jubilee – June 17-19

This year's MLK Day of Service Festival will be included as part of Arlington’s second annual Juneteenth Jubilee! The festival will be located at the City Center Plaza in Downtown Arlington on Saturday, June 18 from 10 AM – 2 PM. Attendees of all ages are invited to come enjoy live music, poetry readings, dancing, food trucks, and more. There will be free face painting and fun for kids with the Imagination Playground. Throughout the event, there will be a free film screening inside the City Hall Council Chambers, as well as a History Timeline Exhibit inside the Library lobby.

Let’s Get Fishy With It! – Friday, June 24

Nothing says summer like a good day of fishing! Join us at Cliff Nelson Recreation Center from 6-8 PM for this all-ages event as we educate future anglers with setting up a fishing pole, baiting a hook, and learning how to cast. There will be fun nature-based activities for everyone to enjoy. The event is free to attend, and paid activities will also be available.
