Medicare & Meatballs (50+ years)

Fall Book Sale

The Friends & Foundation of the Arlington Public Library is holding its huge Fall Book Sale Sept. 20-24, 2023, at the Meadowbrook Recreation Center. There are tons of books, music, DVDs, games, puzzles and more. Most items are $1 or less. 

Taylor Swift The Eras Collection and more at Arlington Museum 

It is the last weekend to head to the Arlington Museum of Art and see T-Swift’s own private collection, Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour Collection is an exploration of Swift as an evolving, boundary-pushing artist. The exhibition will feature original costumes, photographs, videos, and more representing several of her creative periods, or “eras.” Highlights of the exhibition are eight costumes worn by Swift from her record-breaking albums Midnights, folklore, Red (Taylor’s Version) and Fearless (Taylor’s Version). Oktoberfest Food Festival

Head over to Six Flags Over Texas through Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023 to enjoy craft & seasonal brews complimented with a menu of German inspired cuisine at the park’s Oktoberfest Food Festival. Celebrate Oktoberfest with Six Flags by adding a Taste of Oktoberfest Sampler to your order. Six Flags Over Texas is offering over 30 beers and wines during our Oktoberfest event, including a popular list of “Oktoberfest” favorites.

Joseph Farbrook: A Mirror in the Void – Reflections of Consciousness 

The Gallery at UTA is pleased to present Joseph Farbrook: A Mirror in the Void – Reflections of Consciousness, an investigation into sentience expressed through digitally designed and fabricated forms integrated with experimental screen and projection technologies. The exhibition includes video sculptures, virtual reality, interactive pieces with live streamed text, videos, and animations projected on mirrors and viewers’ faces, a 3d printed video sculpture with autostereoscopic screen, and an immersive 4-channel video projection room. Farbrook is an American artist who received his MFA in Media Arts from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and currently is an Associate Professor teaching New Media at the University of Arizona in Tucson. He invents customized media platforms that mix physical and virtual art making practices, and within his work he explores the evolution and consequences of cultural mythology and mediated perception. Farbrook exhibits his work regularly in galleries, museums, and installations worldwide, including Meow Wolf, SIGGRAPH, International Symposium for Electronic Arts, CURRENTS, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Watermans Gallery (London), Cyberarts Gallery, and numerous solo and group exhibitions in New York City, Los Angeles, Boston, Seattle, as well as other national and international sites. The exhibit ends Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023.

Day Trip – Dave & Buster's Day Off

Looking for an action-packed day out for your 5–12-year-olds? Join the Arlington Parks and Recreation Department on a day trip to Shipley's Donuts and Dave & Buster's. Drop-off time is 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2023, at The Beacon Recreation Center and pick-up is at 5 p.m. For only $50, your kids will enjoy a day full of excitement, fun, and delicious food! They will start off the day by treating our taste buds to some of the best donuts in town. Little Explorers – Downtown Library 

Stop by The Play Room at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library on 10 a.m. Fridays for a morning of play-based learning.  This come-and-go program will vary week-to-week as librarians explore art, math, science, engineering, and fine motor skills.  Join the Arlington Public Library as we playfully discover the world around us!  Designed for ages 1-4. Family Storytime – Southeast Branch Library

Join the Arlington Public Library’s fabulous library staff to sing, read and wiggle during storytime at the Southeast Branch Library 10:30 a.m. Fridays. This storytime is geared for ages 2-5. They will read books, sing songs, and have an activity after the program each week. De-Stress Hour

Stressed out from the end of the grading period? Take some time for self-care and come hang out with a therapy dog, courtesy of Heart of Texas Therapy Dogs. The Arlington Public Library will also be providing stress-relief activities for participants intended for teens in 7th - 12th grade 3:30=4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2023.

Miller Lite Hot Country Nights: Alex Lambert

Texas Live! hosts Miller Lite Hot Country Nights powered by TXU Energy. It’s Alex Lambert taking the stage at the CBD Kratom Backyard with doors opening 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2023. The Show is free to attend but you can upgrade your concert experience. Learn more by clicking here

Fluid Art

Fluid art or pour painting with acrylic is a fun and exciting way to create beautiful abstract art 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, 2023, at Catalyst Creative Arts. You will use various colored and premixed acrylic paints on a 16 x 20 or 18 x 24 inch canvas. Our artists will instruct you through several fluid art techniques and work with you as you complete your project. Paintings will be left to dry for 72 hours at the studio and then varnished by our artist before they can be picked up. No experience necessary. Recommended for 8 years and up. All materials provided.

Rangers host Mariners  

Your hometown Rangers host the Seattle Mariners for the last regular season homeset of the season at Globe Life Field with first pitches slated for 7:05 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 6:05 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 1:35 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023. Levitt Pavilion Fall Concert Series 

Levitt Pavilion Arlington’s Fall Concert Series continues 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2023, with Dana Harper opening for Zach Person. Then 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, National Life Group presents Do Good Fest Texas with performances by Kaitlin Butts, Jack Ingram, and Mark Chesnutt. It is a free concert but you must reserve your ticket by clicking here. The Fall Concert continues with UTA Jazz featuring Clay Jenkins starts 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023. These Free Concert Series are free. Open seating is available on the lawn. Please bring blankets and lawn chairs. Shows at Arlington Music Hall

The Arlington Music Hall has shows you can enjoy this weekend. You can experience Blaze of Glory: The Bon Jovi Experience 8:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2023, then Grammy-nominated Daughtry brings the Bare Bones Tour to the historic stage 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, and rounding out the weekend is the Ana Barbara Bandidos Tour 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, 2023. Mobile Pet Adoption Event

Join Arlington Animal Services inside PetSmart at The Arlington Highlands for a tail-wagging, family-friendly, pet-saving community event 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023. Adorable adoptable pets looking for new homes will be available inside PetSmart and ready for immediate adoption. Scheduled events are subject to cancellation without notice due to unfavorable weather conditions (heat, cold, storms, etc.) for the safety and protection of adoptable pets, volunteers, and staff.

The Offseason 2 Esports

Welcome back to the 2nd annual Off-Season event 10 a.m. Sept. 23-24, 2023, Esports Stadium Arlington. This is a charity event that supports Movember and raising awareness around Men's Health and Suicide Prevention.

Vision Boards for Teens 

Celebrate the Arlington Public Library's Centennial by making your very own vision board! Dream big and envision what your future will look like. This program is intended for students ages 13 - 18. It will be limited to the first ten participants who arrive. It takes place 10:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. George W. Hawkes Downtown Library’s Innovative Room. 

Silent Book Club

The book club with no assigned reading and no pressure. The Arlington Public Library meets once a month at local spots around Arlington & Grand Prairie to read, drink, and be in community with other bookworms. Bring any book you choose, enjoy some refreshments, and stay for optional socializing just before and after our reading time. Our meetup location is Inclusion Coffee at 101 E Abram St. #110 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023.

A Day Party in Black & White

The Arlington Foundation for Excellence in Education, in conjunction with the XI Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. present A Day Party in Black & White, which is a celebrating the life of legacy of Prince 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, at Cherry Moon Grill & Bar 3610 S. ¡Viva Tejas!

Head over to Texas Live! 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, as the Texas Rangers celebrate Hispanic culture together throughout the season. As a way to recognize and empower the Hispanic community, Viva Tejas welcomes you to CBD Kratom Backyard one Home Saturday Game every month, highlighting Hispanic traditions through food, live music, vendors, games, and more! This Saturday, there will be live music by La Fiera De Ojinaga. 

Family Bat Night at River Legacy Nature Center

Head out to River Legacy Park for an exciting evening learning about bats. There will be host of family fun bat activities from 6- 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023. There are wonderful story and informational books about bats that you can see. Do you want to eat like a bat? There are recipes so you can do this at home. Compare your wingspan to a giant Golden-crowned flying fox! See the difference between a good and a bad bat house and more. Kate Rugroden, Director of Special Projects, Bat World Midcities, will give a presentation all about bats at 7 p.m. You will then go outside with our Wildlife Acoustics Echo Meter Touch 2 Bat Detectors to see if we can find any.

Sunday Brunch

 Ventana Grille at the Tierra Verde Golf Club clubhouse is now serving brunch from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. each Sunday. Menu items include four savory Eggs Benedict entrées, Shrimp-N-Grits, Ginger Salmon, and our favorite - Napoleon's Last Meal, a buttermilk fried chicken breast over bourbon french toast and served with maple syrup! Guests can also order off of our à la carte menu, making the Sunday Brunch a great option for families, picky eaters or those with smaller appetites. Reservations Welcomed: 817-548-5047. 

Centennial Tiny Art for Adults

Celebrate the Arlington Public Library's 100th anniversary and make your mark in our history by participating in this community art project 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023 at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library’s Tinker Room. During the month of September, adults are invited to this drop-in art session to create miniature paintings inspired by the prompt: "What does community mean to you?" These tiny works of art will be put on display during the Centennial Gala in November.
