Enhancing regional mobility is a key City Council priority, so much so that a Transportation Advisory Committeewas created in 2016 with the sole purpose of studying Arlington's present, near-term and future transportation needs.

This group, made up of 31 Arlington residents and stakeholders, has spent the past year diligently researching and discussing the latest innovations in transportation technology. The Committee will hold one last public meeting September 7 before presenting recommendations to the Arlington City Council on September 26.

In the meantime, the City Council's commitment to exploring new transportation opportunities has continued with the launch of Milo, a free autonomous shuttle service that will operate on select off-street trails in the Entertainment District before and after major events at AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Park in Arlington. With the August 26 start of the one-year pilot project, Arlington will become the first municipal government in the United States to offer ongoing autonomous shuttle service to the general public.

And later this year, the City plans to initiate a one-year demand response ride share pilot project to investigate the viability of this type of service. These are pilot projects that allow the city to test cutting-edge technology while making only a modest investment.

These moves will enable the City to better enact the recommendations of the Transportation Advisory Committee to ensure that the City's approach to transportation is well vetted, a wise investment of the taxpayer dollars, and will ultimately address the transportation needs of Arlington for the future.
