Throughout the month of August, Arlington will be competing in this year’s online Wyland Foundation National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation and residents of all ages can help! It only takes a few minutes to take the pledge at MyWaterPledge.com.

Every year, mayors from cities all across the United States encourage their residents to take the online pledge for their city to make an effort to reduce water waste and to learn better habits to conserve water. The challenge includes everyday tips as well as hands-on, DIY projects for both around the house and in the community.

This year, residents who take the pledge will be entered into weekly drawings featured on the Arlington Water Utilities Facebook page. Prize packs will include items that will help you keep your water conservation promises like informational plumbing repair booklets, activity/coloring books for kids, rain gauges, water bottles and water learning tools.

Last year, Arlington placed in the Top 10 of all cities across the US of Arlington’s size, according to the Wyland Foundation. Arlington residents made approximately 1,899 pledges, which resulted in a water savings of at least 7.8 million gallons of water. This year’s will be completely virtual, giving participating residents the ability to participate while also staying safe at home.
All completed pledges and water conservation challenge activities will earn your city points towards the Challenge.

Each year, the Wyland Foundation awards a grand prize to a nonprofit in one city. This year, residents can enter the name of their favorite charity to compete for a 2020 Toyota Highlander Hybrid.

This year’s Water Conservation Challenge is being held in August to coincide with National Water Quality Month, which is a great time to learn more about water. You can do that by:
