Data is behind the City’s decisions both large and small – from tracking which books and materials library patrons check out the most to help guide future investments in the library’s collection all the way to high-tech scans of streets and sanitary sewer mains to prioritize the most critical repairs – to better serve those who live, work, play and learn here.

In this edition of the quarterly Put Technology to Work newsletter, you can learn more about the City of Arlington’s recent recognition as one of only eight cities in the nation to ever achieve What Works Cities certification at the gold level.

This certification, a national standard of excellence, evaluates how effectively cities are managed by measuring the extent to which city leaders incorporate data and evidence in their decision-making and whether they have the right people, processes, and policies in place to put data and evidence at the center of decision-making. Arlington is the first city in Texas to earn this distinction.

The Arlington City Council has identified “Put Technology to Work” as one of five priorities. Technology is an essential aspect of daily life and has quite the impact on our organization, residents, visitors and businesses. It is also integral in achieving the City’s other priorities: Invest in Our Economy, Support Youth and Families, Enhance Regional Mobility and Champion Great Neighborhoods.

All quarterly City Council priority newsletters are produced in a digital formal, allowing for layers of additional video content and important links.
