Arlington MLK events on Sunday, Jan. 14 and Monday, Jan. 15 are postponed.

Due to forecasted extreme winter weather, Arlington MLK Four-Day Celebration events scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 14 and Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, have been postponed.

The Arlington Martin Luther King, Jr. “Advancing the Dream” Four-Day Celebration Committee, Inc. came to this decision in the best interest of the community to stay safe during this time.

“Most of these events involve participants, visitors and volunteers to be outside,” explained Lisa Thompson, president of the Arlington Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee, Inc. Board of Directors. “We want to protect people from freezing conditions.”

The events that are postponed include the MLK Hubert Moss Ecumenical Service, Zeb Strong Jr. MLK Day of Service, MLK Day of Service Festival, MLK Youth Extravaganza and a screening of a historical documentary. Thompson says those events will be rescheduled for a later date.

“While we have postponed these events, it is still vital to celebrate and take introspection, both collectively and individually, of Dr. King’s dream,” Thompson said. “This year for Dr. King’s birthday in Arlington that can happen as you protect yourself from the winter elements. The Arlington Martin Luther King, Jr. “Advancing the Dream” Four-Day Celebration Committee, Inc. plans to welcome our community back to celebrate collectively soon.”

The Arlington MLK Four-Day Celebration will hold events at the scheduled times on Friday and Saturday. Click here to visit the event Facebook page.

“We look forward to seeing our community attending the MLK Gala this evening, January 12, and the MLK Step Show and Talent Showcase and Poetry Meets Jazz events on Saturday, January 13,” said Aaron Perales, MLK Advancing the Dream Four-Day Celebration chairperson.
