If you are interested in becoming a homeowner in Arlington, help is now available. Qualified homebuyers can participate in the Arlington Housing Finance Corporation"s Mortgage Credit Certificate program, also known as MCC.

The Arlington Housing Finance Corporation"s MCC Program is a federal income tax credit designed to assist those who are trying to become homeowners. With an MCC, the qualified homebuyer is eligible to write off up to $2,000 of the annual interest paid on the mortgage as a special tax credit. The credit can be claimed annually as long as the home is your principal residence.

The AHFC has helped 58 families become first time homebuyers in Arlington through its first series of the Mortgage Credit Certificate program since it launched in April 2011. In fact, the first series of the MCC program was so successful the AHFC issues its second series. The second series is slated to assist 125 families.

"The MCC program has exceeded our expectations,' said AHFC Director David Zappasodi. "It is a wonderful resource to enable qualified homebuyers to purchase a home of their choice in Arlington. The MCC can also be used in combination with other homebuyer assistance resources.'
