This week, Arlington MLK Committee members began their review of more than 450 pieces of art in preparation for the upcoming 25th anniversary celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Committee members gathered Monday to rank each entry on how well it conforms with the theme, Advancing the Dream - The Time is Now!

This art competition was open to junior high and high school students residing within the city limits of Arlington. All submissions were required to be original drawings.

The winning design will appear on T-shirts, posters, flyers and programs associated with the Arlington MLK Celebration. The winner will also receive a $1,000 award.

Second and third place winners will each receive $750 and $500 respectfully. The committee is also judging essays. All winners will be announced later this month and recognized formally in January.

Update: The nomination process is now open for Sharing the Dream Awards. Visit www.ArlingtonMLK.com to nominate an individual, group, church or business.
