Community Invited to Participate in City’s Safe Streets Arlington Public Meeting March 7, 2024

Imagine a day where no one is severely injured or killed while walking, biking or driving to work, school or other destinations across our 99-square-mile community. The City of Arlington is working toward that goal by creating a transportation safety action plan, called Safe Streets Arlington, with the help of a federal grant fund.

The Safe Streets Plan aims to give the City a path forward to creating a safer system for all roadway users through a comprehensive and data-driven approach. The plan process, which will be developed over the next year, is being led by the City’s Transportation Department, with assistance from Police, Public Works and other city departments.

The Arlington community is invited to participate in a series of public meetings, to provide valuable feedback to the Safe Streets Arlington Plan. The first public meeting is set for 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2024, at the East Library and Recreation Center, 1817 New York Ave. All roadway users, including motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists, are invited to attend this meeting to learn more about the City’s road safety initiative to prevent traffic-related deaths and serious injuries. Arlington was among 474 communities that received an action planning grant in the first round of Safe Streets and Roads for All program, which is funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
