The Arlington Police Department is now hiring Detention Officers.
Detention Officers are non-sworn APD personnel who staff and work in the Arlington City Jail. Please continue reading to learn more about the Detention Officer application process and applicant requirements.
For those interested in a future opportunity to serve as a police officer, the department will accept four years of continuous service as an APD Detention Officer AND at least 60 hours of college credit in lieu of the standard four-year college degree requirement for APD officers.
Detention Officer Minimum Standards
- Applicant must be 18 years of age or older.
- Applicant must possess a High School diploma or GED.
- Applicant may not have any Felony or Class A Misdemeanor convictions.
- Applicant may not have any convictions above a Class C Misdemeanor within the last 10 years.(Including DWI / DUID)
- Applicant may not have any convictions for any family violence offense.
- Applicant may not currently or in the last ten years have been on court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above the grade of Class C Misdemeanor.
- Applicant must be of good character and have a stable work and driving record.
- Applicant may not have relatives working for the Arlington Police Department or on the Arlington City Council or employed as a City of Arlington Department Head.
- Applicant must have a valid Driver License.
- Applicant may not have any pending litigation (civil or criminal) at the time of application.
- Applicant can have tattoos except on the hands, face, or neck.
Additional Requirements
Applicant must possess the ability to lift or exert forces up to 68 pounds and push/pull up to 45 pounds.
This position requires the following pre-employment checks:
- Detailed criminal background processing
- Psychological evaluation
- Polygraph examination
- Drug and Alcohol testing
- Pre-employment physical
Benefits
Starting pay for Detention Officers is $20.19 per hour. Additional shift differential pay is also available for Detention Officers who work certain shifts.
