Meet the Director

Director Alex Whiteway

The City of Arlington named Alex Whiteway as the new director of Arlington Water Utilities in June 2024.

Prior to coming to Arlington, Whiteway worked for the City of Mansfield’s Water Utilities Department for the past two decades and most recently served as the department’s assistant director since 2018.

“I've been in this industry for 20 years, and coming from a neighboring city, I have had the opportunity to work with City of Arlington staff. I've always been passionate about public service, and I am excited to join a strong team of talented individuals in one of the largest cities in Texas,” Whiteway said.

Whiteway worked his way up from his start as a tradesperson on the City of Mansfield’s wastewater crew to field operations leadership roles and ultimately the assistant director role. He holds various licenses, including the highest certification as a Class A Water Operator.

Throughout his career, Whiteway said he has always prioritized examining new technologies to ensure that residents were receiving the highest quality of service possible.

Whiteway earned a bachelor’s degree in criminology and a master’s degree in public administration from The University of Texas at Arlington. He served as board chairman of the Texas Water Utilities Association Board in 2022 and 2023 and his professional certifications include Class A Water Operator, Certified Water Professional, Wastewater Collection III, Licensed Irrigator, Customer Service Inspector, and Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester.
