Mauricio Galante Arlington City Council Member District 1 Elected May 2024 Galante was born in Brazil, came to the United States of America in 2003, and lived in Danielson, CT, for nine years before moving to Arlington with his wife, Dr. Larissa Vilela, and their children, Henrique and Stella. He attended public schools in Sao Paulo and graduated from the Brazilian Naval Academy in 1993, where he served until he was ranked lieutenant. During his Navy career, Councilman Galante acquired leadership skills by serving as a deck officer, weapon systems officer, amphibious warfare officer, rescue swimmer, naval special warfare program, and riverine patrol ship executive officer. Following his honorable early retirement from the Brazilian Navy in 2002, Councilman Galante embarked on a successful entrepreneurial journey. He owned and operated an ecotourism agency and three skydiving companies abroad and in the US, honing his skills in sports entrepreneurship and the hospitality industries for over two decades. In 2014, he and his wife acquired the Golf Center of Arlington, renovated it, and worked to get it ranked four times by the Golf Range Association of America as a Top 50 Stand-Alone US facility (2015, 2018, 2022, and 2023). In 2015, Councilman Galante was one of the pioneers in adopting a ball-tracking system for golf ranges called Protracer. Top Golf Entertainment Group acquired it in 2016 and rebranded it to Toptracer. He is currently involved in extending the system's footprint in Latin America from more than 1,000 locations worldwide.
In 2022, he authored a motivational autobiography titled "What if My Parachute doesn't open? " It is written in Brazilian Portuguese, his native language, and is available in major book retailers there. Soon to be released in English version.
