Enjoy Art, Dancing and Frybread at UTA Native American Heritage Month Celebration

The Native American Students Association at the University of Texas at Arlington invites the community to attend its Native American Heritage Month Celebration this week.

This event, which is open to the public and kid-friendly, is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29 at the University Center Bluebonnet Ballroom on campus at 300 W. 1st St. Participants can learn about different Native dance styles, listen to the heartbeat of the drum, try out some authentic frybread and tour a display of Native artwork by artist Damon Neal.

Eli Hickman founding organizer of D/FW Kabutcha Toli will also demonstrate traditional Choctaw stickball, a game that has been played for hundreds of years. This event will be interactive and allow some audience participation. Come network with the local Native community and learn more about the real heritage of Native Americans.

UTA NASA is the longest running student led Native organization in the state of Texas. The Winds of Change annual magazine ranks UTA in the top 200 colleges for Native American students in the U.S.

The Native American Students Association's 24th annual powwow is scheduled for March 2, 2019.
