Ushering in the season of giving and displaying the kindness in our community, thousands of volunteers will once again come together at Mission Arlington in Downtown to help families enjoy Thanksgiving dinner.
It’s an annual effort by Mission Arlington to make the holiday special for families throughout the Metroplex, focusing primarily on Arlington and Grand Prairie. Approximately 6,000 volunteers will gather at Mission Arlington’s main office (210 W. South Street) at 8 a.m. Thursday, November 22, 2018, to deliver turkeys, turkey baskets and hot meals to people in need.
Volunteers have also been working hard in the days leading up to Thanksgiving to help sort and box the food that is donated and attaching maps to each delivery. Last year, thanks to Mission Arlington and the help of volunteers, more than 25,000 people were served dinner on Thanksgiving Day.
If you want to bring a group to volunteer, please call Mission Arlington at 817-277-6620, ext. 6143. You can find more information on Mission Arlington’s website. You can also read and watch Tillie Burgin’s American Dream story, where she talks about the importance of giving back to the Arlington community.
The City of Arlington, which launched a Kindness Initiative last year, applauds Mission Arlington for working to make The American Dream City a kinder place to live, work, play and learn.
People are encouraged to report acts of kindness that they perform, witness or were the recipient of through the City’s Ask Arlington mobile app, on the Acts of Kindness website, or by posting on social media using #ArlingtonKindness and @CityofArlington.
