Do you go nuts for pecan trees? Do you pine for pines? Do you love trees? If so, the Randol Mill Park tree farm needs your help!

Volunteers are needed for a come-and-go work day at the Randol Mill Park tree farm from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 11. Volunteers will have the opportunity to get their hands dirty repotting saplings, trimming nursery trees, and transplanting seedlings to the tree farm located in the back of Randol Mill Park.

The tree farm is in the northwest corner of the park. Directions are posted at the entrance to guide volunteers to the right location. Sign up is not necessary but volunteers will need to sign a waiver before helping. All tools and supplies will be provided by the Forestry and Beautification team. Participants may bring their own cleaned pruning loppers.

Trees from the Randol Mill Park tree farm are used for the City of Arlington's L.E.A.F program as well as the annual Ecofest.

The L.E.A.F. program (Let's Enhance Arlington's Forests) aims to increase the canopy cover in Arlington by offering free trees to neighborhoods, homeowners and businesses to plant. Last year, about 200 15-gallon trees were distributed. Residents can receive two trees per household and neighborhoods can receive up to 100 trees. This year's L.E.A.F program tree giveaway will take place in early November.

Ecofest is an annual educational event focused on eco-friendly brands and environmental awareness. Last year, the City handed out more than 3,500 packets of butterfly weed seeds that provide food and habitat to Monarch butterflies, along with more than 750 trees and 1,000 bags of mulch.
