From replacing aging water mains in neighborhoods to deciding which streets need to be rebuilt or repaired, the City of Arlington puts technology to work every day to make The American Dream City a better place to live, learn, work and play.
All quarterly City Council priority newsletters are now produced in a digital formal, allowing for layers of additional video content and important links. Residents can check out the new format in the latest edition of the Put Technology to Work newsletter.
Drivers can count on smoother, longer-lasting streets thanks to the City's use of technology. As part of Arlington's annual pavement survey, a fleet of vehicles equipped with precision instruments and data collection equipment drives along one-third of the City's streets to collect roadway condition information. This year's survey, which recently wrapped up, focused on south Arlington. The data will help the City develop a comprehensive and proactive approach to roadway management that ensures road maintenance budgets are spent wisely.
Speaking of streets, the City's trenchless replacement method to install water mains near Collins Street and Arkansas Lane will mean less street excavation and less disruption for water utilities customers.
The Arlington City Council has identified "Put Technology to Work" as one of five priorities. Technology is an essential aspect of daily life and has quite the impact on our organization, residents, visitors and businesses. It is also integral in achieving the City's other priorities: Invest in Our Economy, Support Youth and Families, Enhance Regional Mobility and Champion Great Neighborhoods.
