The Dallas Wings selected Aerial Powers from Michigan State in the first round (fifth overall) of the 2016 WNBA draft as they enter their inaugural season in Arlington.

"We are very pleased with our 2016 draft class," said General Manager Greg Bibb. "We achieved our objectives of adding talent and depth to our roster. We are excited to bring Aerial, Ruth and Shekena into camp to compete for a roster spot with our organization."

A 6-0 forward, Powers has started in all 64 games of her career, averaging 17.5 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 2.0 steals, with 34 double-doubles. She became the first Spartan to earn First-Team All-Big Ten honors as a Freshman and broke the Spartan freshman free throw record with 107 made.

This season, Powers led the Spartans in scoring, averaging 22 points per game, breaking her own record with 683 total points for the year. She also tabbed 24 double-doubles, the most any Spartan has completed since 1978. She was the highest scorer in 22 of the 33 games played, earning first-team All Big Ten honors.

"We are so excited about tonight's selections," said Dallas Wings Head Coach Fred Williams. The roster we brought in is going to bring a competitive edge as we begin our training camp in the next couple of weeks. We're happy to welcome Aerial, Ruth and Shakena to the Wings organization. Each player will add depth to our team roster."

In the second round Dallas selected Ruth Hamblin (18th overall).

A 6-6 center from Oregon State University, Hamblin was the Pac-12 All-Conference first team pick, as well as an All-America honorable mention recipient (AP) and helped the Beavers to first Final Four in program history. She led the Beavers in blocked shots, averaging 3.5 per game and in rebounds, with 10.0. She also led her team in free throw percentage (.551).

In the third round (30th overall), the Wings added guard Shakena Richardson from Seton Hall.

Richardson became the first WNBA Draft pick in Seton Hall history, being the Wings third round pick. After playing two years at Rutgers and one year at Florida State, the Pirate had a stellar 2015-16 season leading the team in assists (5.6) and steals (1.5) per game.

The Dallas Wings tip-off their regular season home opener May 21 against the San Antonio Stars at 7:30 pm inside College Park Center, a state-of-the-art 7,000-seat arena conveniently located on the campus of The University of Texas at Arlington.
