Weekend Buzz: 10 Events in The American Dream City for Oct. 26-28, 2018

1. Arlington Library's Día de los Muertos

Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a holiday honoring family and friends who have passed on. On Saturday, Oct. 27, come to the Downtown Library to take part in Día de los Muertos activities. Crafts and family fun will start at 1 p.m. in the [re]Brary Room on the first floor. Also at 1 p.m., teens can make a sugar skull-inspired craft in the Maker Space. The Library will show Disney's popular film Coco, which is set on Día de los Muertos, in the City Council Chamber and Community Center at 2 p.m.

2. Food Truck Friday Lunch Series

Join the Arlington Parks and Recreation Department this Friday for Food Truck Lunches between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Levitt Pavilion, 100 W. Abram St. The lunch series runs every Friday through November 2. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets to the food truck events, as seating is limited. 3. The Adventures of Nate the Great at Theatre Arlington

The Adventures of Nate the Great is a spoof of "B" movie mysteries. It's a perspective of a child's vision of life's everyday mysteries-when past, present and future all combine to create a wonderful Now. The show runs through Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Theatre Arlington. Appropriate for audiences ages 3 and up.

The performance schedule is included below:

  • Friday at 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday at 2 & 7:30 p.m.
  • Sunday at 2 p.m.

4. Fright Fest at Six Flags Over Texas

Fright Fest, presented by SNICKERS®, is back for select days through October 31, 2018 at Six Flags Over Texas in The American Dream City. The park will also be open this weekend for guests to enjoy their favorite coasters and attractions, including the ultimate Super-Villain thrill ride-HARLEY QUINN Spinsanity. The park's operating hours are from 11 a.m. to midnight on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday. 5. Live Music at Texas Live!

Check out live music this weekend at Texas Live!, the new $250 million world-class dining, entertainment and hospitality district located near the Rangers' Globe Life Park and Cowboys' AT&T Stadium in The American Dream City. Arlington Backyard, a 5,000-capacity outdoor event pavilion, is expected to host more than 250 events annually. The Struts will perform at 8 p.m. at the Arlington Backyard on Friday, October 26. The College Game Day Watch Party kicks off on Saturday at 11 a.m. in front of a Texas-Sized Television and Terror at Texas Live! starts at 8 p.m. on Saturday. 6. Stadiumlinks Golf Experience at Globe Life Park

This weekend, Globe Life Park will once again be transformed into Stadiumlinks, a one-of-a-kind, nine-hole golf experience in The American Dream City. Tee times are offered across three event days, October 26-28, offering both early morning and evening sessions, ending with the ballpark lights illuminating the entire course under the night sky. Tickets, starting at $75 per person, are on sale starting today. Due to an extremely limited number of tee times available, early registration is strongly recommended. 7. Arlington Aquatics Spooky Swamp

  • 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 27, 2018
  • Hugh Smith Indoor Pool and Recreation Center, 1815 New York Ave.
  • Hugh Smith Indoor Pool is turning into a Spooky Swamp. Children and parents of all ages can swim and take part in Halloween activities.
  • All ages welcome! Admission: $2.50

8. Live Music at Grease Monkey Burger Shop & Social Club

Head over to Grease Monkey Burger Shop & Social Club in Downtown Arlington for live music this weekend. On Friday, October 26, enjoy Velvet Love Box at 9 p.m. Sometimes described as "acoustic anarchy", the band features three veteran musicians from the North Texas area: guitarist/vocalist Scot Cloud, percussionist/vocalist Brandon Bumpas, and vocalist/bassist Neil Schnell. Grease Monkey is located at 200 N Mesquite St, Arlington, TX 76011.

9. Live Music at J.R. Bentley's

Check out live music with Devin Leigh this Friday, October 26, 2018 at J.R. Bentley's in Downtown Arlington. The show starts at 8 p.m. On Saturday, enjoy live music at J.R. Bentley's Halloween Party from 8-11 p.m. Situated in a historic home, J.R. Bentley's has the feel of an authentic English pub and features several local and area bands throughout the year. The venue is located at 406 W Abram St, Arlington, TX 76010. You can find a complete calendar of events at www.jrbentleys.com. Regular hours of operation are Monday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Sunday from 5 p.m. to midnight.

10. Shows at UTA Planetarium

UTA Planetarium continues to offer shows to residents and visitors. This includes Spacepark 360: Infinity, a planetarium show designed to recreate the experience of amusement park thrill rides, roller coasters, pendulums, inverters and more.
