Old is new, as it's time for our 16th annual Medieval Arts Festival. Visitors to Arlington's George W. Hawkes Downtown Library, 100 S. Center St., can experience the Medieval world from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3.
Return to the days of knights, chivalry and castles and experience the Middle Ages as history comes to life! Medieval Arts Festival is brought to you by the Arlington Public Library as well as costumed members of the Society for Creative Anachronism, with live demonstrations and educational exhibits. In addition, local author Katy Beebe will read to the kids and Medieval Facts Examiner Troy Depue will have fun with facts and trivia.
Let the artist in the child come out to play as they color and design their own paper shield, build their own castle with the imagination playground, listen to medieval themed stories and receive a certificate with their name in calligraphy script. Attendees can get a snack from a food truck and then wander over to spend a little money at a local vendors booth.
All attendees can sign up for a chance at great door prizes provided by Theatre Arlington, Medieval Times and Scarborough Renaissance Festival. As usual Medieval Times will provide paper crowns for all.
Past attendees have enjoyed learning together at this annual library event, as well as having a fun afternoon for the whole family. It's a time to spend with the family and it's a great homeschooling and public-school educational opportunity. While you are there, be sure to check out book or video to learn more about the Medieval period of history.
