Every year, the Arlington MLK Celebration Committee searches for the very best in original art and literature. Cash prizes and scholarships are awarded to the winning submissions.
This year's theme is "Advancing the Dream: A Nation of Freedom and Justice." Participants are asked to base their art and essays on the question: What can be done today to make Dr. King 's dream of freedom and justice a reality in our community?
The MLK student art and essay competitions are sponsored by the Arlington Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee.
The art contest is open to junior high and high school students attending Arlington schools or residing within the Arlington city limits. The essay contest is open to high school seniors attending Arlington schools or residing within the Arlington city limits.
The deadline to enter either contest is 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18. For more entry rules and guidelines, visitwww.ArlingtonMLK.com.
Winners will be notified in December and formally recognized on January 13, 2017, at the MLK Advancing the Dream Awards Banquet.
