On Tuesday, October 6, 2015, neighborhoods across Arlington will take part in National Night Out (NNO), an annual event that encourages residents to step outside, get to know their neighbors and take a stand against crime. To date, close to 180 neighborhood parties have registered their participation with the Arlington Police Department. Many of them have planned block parties, cookouts, games and outdoor gatherings.

Arlington Police Chief Will Johnson said National Night Out is also a good time to strengthen police and community partnerships and promote crime prevention efforts such as Community Watch and Citizens On Patrol. National Night Out began in 1984 and has ties in more than 15,000 communities around the globe.

On Tuesday night, residents can also meet officers and talk with them about crime prevention and safety. Most National Night Out events will begin around 6 p.m. and end after sunset.

Arlington's participation in National Night Out continues to surpass other North Texas cities. In a comparison of large cities in the U.S. with populations greater than 300,000 people, Arlington ranks fourth in National Night Out participation, according to the National Association of Town Watch. The rankings are based on a number of factors, including the overall quality of the National Night Out marketing campaign, neighborhood participation and law enforcement involvement.
