Bull riding and rodeo fans will once again be treated to the best Western sports stars in the world when the PBR Iron Cowboy and THE AMERICAN return to AT&T Stadium on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 18-19, 2017. The PBR Iron Cowboy gets underway at 5:50 p.m. on Saturday. Every rider will take on one bull in each round, striving to make the 8-second buzzer. If a rider successfully covers his bull, he will advance to the next round. If he gets bucked off, he is finished. Through a minimum of two, and a maximum of five rounds, these athletes will continue to ride until one cowboy prevails and is declared the Iron Cowboy. THE AMERICAN starts at noon on Sunday. The Arlington Museum of Art's upcoming Eat Your Art Out fundraising event will offer guests a chance to see and taste artistically crafted desserts that are a sweet treat for both the eyes and the palate. Tickets are on sale now for the 7 p.m. February 18, 2017 event at the Arlington Museum of Art, located at 201 W. Main Street in downtown. Eat Your Art Out will feature the creative works of several individual bakers, restaurants and bakeries from across North Texas, including The London Baker in Fort Worth, which competed on Food Network's Cake Wars last year. Tickets for the museum fundraiser are $100 each and can be purchased here.
Low-Cost Pet Vaccines and Microchips Available - February 18
The Texas Coalition for Animal Protection (TCAP) will be at the Hugh Smith Recreation Center from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, February 18 to provide low-cost vaccinations and services for pets. Free rabies vaccinations, made possible by Best Friends Animal Society, will be available for the first 50 pets from ZIP Code 76010. Residents can also license their pet at the event. Arlington, are you ready to rock? This musical involves more than 30 children in cast and crew roles. All of the participants are under the age of 18 and most are residents of Arlington, Mansfield and Grand Prairie. School of Rock runs Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until March 5. Tickets cost $15 for individuals and $12 for groups of 10+. This musical, which lasts about 2 hours, is recommended for audiences ages 10 and up. Tickets are still available to attend School of Rock: Youth Production, opening this Friday, Feb. 17 at Theatre Arlington, 305 W. Main St.
The Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau's Family Reunion Planning Workshop will take place from 8 a.m. to noon on Feb. 18, 2017 at Bob Duncan Center, 2800 S. Center St. Arlington, TX 76014. This free half-day workshop will include checklists and timelines for planning, how to find the right lodging options, money savers, itinerary building for all age groups and many other tips to make your event fun for everyone. Become a citizen scientist for the day and discover who might be showing their feathers by participating in River Legacy's Great Backyard Bird Count free Family Festival on Saturday, February 18. The free festival slated from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Science Center, 703 NW Green Oaks Blvd., will give participants a chance to be citizen scientists by contributing to a snapshot of bird distribution that can help Cornell scientists discover changes over the past 20 years. Family-friendly activities geared at bird education and conservation include games such as Fill the Bill, Bird Song Bingo, Jeop-Birdy, Bird Scavenger Hunt and a Bird Migration Challenge Obstacle Course; and crafts such as Bird Feeders, Paper Owls, Bird Origami and more.
UTA Planetarium has announced its spring schedule of shows through May 28, 2017. This lineup includes Phantom of the Universe, a new planetarium show that unveils scientists' efforts to explore Dark Matter. The show focuses on the Large Hadron Collider, the gigantic underground particle detector which is being used to explore the inner workings of the matter. Dark Matter is invisible and we only know of its existence due to its gravitational effect. It is believed that 85 percent of the matter in the universe is Dark Matter.
