Big dreams are nothing new for the people of Arlington and there will be a 54-foot long, 12-foot tall metal DREAM sculpture to perfectly highlight that sentiment starting Friday, September 25, 2015.

"The selection of the word 'dream' for the sculpture happened organically, right here in Arlington. It was inspired by the City of Arlington brand Arlington, The American Dream City," said Bob Pruitt, photographer, entrepreneur, and the mastermind behind the project.

A dedication event is planned for the DREAM sculpture Friday night at 7 p.m. in conjunction with this year's South St. Art Festival and folk rock musician Luke Wade's appearance at the Levitt Pavilion.

While a permanent location for the sculpture has not been finalized, First Baptist Church-Arlington has agreed in the interim to host the sculpture on its downtown property, which is adjacent to the Levitt Pavilion Founders Plaza at 100 West Abram Street.

Crews began pouring concrete for the sculpture on Wednesday, with the wiring of the lights on the letters taking place today, September 24.

Downtown Arlington Management Corporation and the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation have each pledged $25,000 in support of the $75,000 project.

"The Arlington Tomorrow Foundation seeks opportunities that take our community to a new place. The Dream project fulfills that mission," said Carolyn Mentesana, executive director of the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation.

"This project is particularly appealing to our board because it has the power to connect with people from around the world on a personal level. For instance, every single UT Arlington student is pursuing his or her dreams right now and right here in downtown Arlington."

Before the DREAM sculpture came to Downtown Arlington, it enjoyed an inaugural run at the annual Burning Man festival, held in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada in early September.
