City Council Approves Brown Blvd. Sewer Renewal, Road Surface Replacement
Arlington City Council has approved a contract with Gra-Tex Utilities of Arlington to work on the water and sanitary sewer main renewal along Brown Boulevard between Ballpark Way and North Watson Road (SH 360).
The project was approved at the most recent City Council meeting on Tuesday, September 15, 2015.
The funding of $2,191,277.50 is coming from a combination of sources:
- Water Bond Fund - $912,601.50
- Sanitary Sewer Bond - $78,670
- Street Maintenance Fund - $1,085,796
- Street Bond Fund - Sidewalks - $114,210
The City's Water Utilities Department estimates the project will take about 300 days to complete and construction is projected to start in November 2015.
The Water Utilities Department urges safety from drivers once work on the project gets underway.
"Since it will be a work zone, we ask for people to slow down and be cautious, both for workers and for their own safety,"said Project Engineer John Morgan.
The Brown Boulevard project will replace a couple of existing water mains and includes the repair of sidewalks in areas of need.
This project will extend the life of the public facilities, reduce maintenance costs and improve service to these areas.
Once the water/sewer repair is complete, the road surface will also be completely replaced.
Approximately 17,250 square yards of asphalt pavement will be reconstructed by the contractor as directed by Arlington's Public Works and Transportation Department.
The improvements are part of City Council's priority to Enhance Regional Mobility.
