Pudge's Jersey Retirement & the Astros-Rangers Series

The Houston Astros come to Globe Life Park in Arlington for a three-game series this weekend. The Rangers will hold a ceremony before Saturday's game at 6:45 p.m. to retire the uniform number 7 of catcher Ivan 'Pudge&' Rodriguez. He will become the third Ranger to have his uniform number retired by the club, joining Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan's #34 in 1996 and former manager Johnny Oates' #26 in 2005. Pudge was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on July 30, 2017 and became the 52nd player to be elected by the members of the Baseball Writers Association of America in his first year on the ballot. The first 15,000 fans at Saturday's game will also receive a PowerAde Walmart Pudge Rodriguez Baseball HOF Bobblehead.

AISD Back to School Kickoff at AT&T Stadium

The third annual AISD Back to School Kickoff - a community effort to help more than 10,000 Arlington ISD students and their families prepare for the upcoming school year - will be from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. At the AISD Back to School Kickoff, pre-registered students will receive a backpack filled with school supplies appropriate to their grade level. Students have the opportunity to register for immunizations, vision checks, dental screenings and haircuts. Students and parents can also visit the more than 100 resource booths that will be on site. To register to receive school supplies, serve as a volunteer, or donate to provide the backpacks and supplies, please visit www.aisd.net/kickoff.

Einstein: A Stage Portrait at Theatre Arlington

This one-man play by Willard Simms presents the private, personal, and deeply human side of Albert Einstein, the reluctant celebrity who changed forever the way we look at the universe. Starring Dennis Maher, the show runs through Sunday, August 20 at Theatre Arlington in Downtown. Tickets are $23 for adults, $21 for seniors and students (with valid ID) and $18.50 for groups of 10 or more people. Thursday performances are at 7:30 p.m., Friday & Saturday performances are at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees begin at 2 p.m.

Six Flags Hurricane Harbor

From thrilling slides to relaxing pools, Arlington residents and visitors will be happy to hear that Hurricane Harbor is now open all week. The water park in Arlington's Entertainment District will be open Thursday through Sunday, August 10-13, 2017. Hurricane Harbor will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Six Flags Hurricane Harbor features 47 acres of water wonderland to enjoy. Six Flags Over Texas

Spend the weekend at Six Flags Over Texas with all your friends and family celebrating all things summer. Enjoy some delicious summer-time favorites hot off the grill along with American-sized thrills on our roller coasters such as BATMAN The Ride, SUPERMAN: Tower of Power and MR. FREEZE: Reverse Blast. The Joker free-fly coaster is also open at Six Flags. After being lifted straight up a 12-story, 90-degree hill, riders flip head-over-heels up to six times along the weightless journey. Shows at UTA Planetarium

UTA Planetarium continues to offer shows to residents and visitors this summer. The Planetarium's lineup of shows is featured in an episode of 'Culture Buzz' on MyArlingtonTV. This includes Phantom of the Universe, a planetarium show that unveils scientists' efforts to explore Dark Matter. The show focuses on the Large Hadron Collider, the gigantic underground particle detector being used to explore the inner workings of the matter. Dark Matter is invisible and we only know of its existence due to its gravitational effect. It is believed that 85 percent of the matter in the universe is Dark Matter.
