Bikes, Dances and Drums: Dallas Cowboys Encourage Arlington Youth to be Active

The Dallas Cowboys encouraged kids to get up and active last week through a weeklong celebration of PLAY that included youth football and outreach events in Arlington, Dallas and Frisco.

The Dallas Cowboys outreach efforts highlighted NFL Play Football and NFL PLAY 60 programs and utilized Cowboys rookie players, alumni, cheerleaders, dance team and drum line, as well as mascot Rowdy for a variety of youth-centric events. The goal of the weeklong effort was to encourage youth to choose a healthy lifestyle, exercising their body and their minds, while also demonstrating the fun of football for both boys and girls.

Events in Arlington last week included the Dallas Rhythm & Blue Dance team and drum line treating boys and girls to a hip-hop and percussion class at the Gene and Jerry Jones Family North Texas Youth Education Town at The Salvation Army. Then on Saturday, Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions alumni players met at Grace Church to build 50 bicycles for youth served by Mission Arlington.

The Dallas Cowboys PLAY 60 initiative is an active movement by the NFL community to encourage at least 60 minutes of play a day in an effort to tackle childhood obesity and create the healthiest, most active generation of kids. PLAY 60 brings together the NFL and Dallas Cowboys long-standing commitment to health and fitness with an impressive roster of partner organizations, like Dairy MAX and Fuel Up to Play 60.

Play Football is a year-round NFL initiative that commemorates youth and high school football by shaping football experiences, promoting the values of football participation and connecting communities through the game. The Dallas Cowboys activate Play Football through camps, clinics, award programs and other opportunities for high school football players, coaches and parents throughout the year.
