Public safety officials are reminding drivers to be extra cautious after additional rain showers this morning resulted in temporary flooding at some Arlington streets and intersections.
Some creeks are still high, and some areas of the city are still saturated from heavy storms this past weekend. With more rain on Wednesday morning, some commuters found neighborhood streets flooded. Arlington closed sections of four roads, including the 1900 block of S. Davis Drive, Bever Boulevard and Lovers Lane, South Center Street at East Border Street and Forest Edge Drive.
Arlington police are reminding drivers to allow themselves plenty of time for travel and to "turn around, don't drown" instead of taking a risk by driving through flood waters. Arlington firefighters had responded to 19 weather-related rescue calls between 6:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.
Residents can report flooding conditions to the City's Action Center at 817-459-6777.
Additionally, up to 25 sandbags are offered free of charge to Arlington residents with valid proof of residency. Businesses may pick up as many as 50 free sandbags with proof of business address, such as a certificate of occupancy. The bags may be picked up between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the North Field Operations office located at 801 W. Main St.
