From spicy tuna rolls to freshly baked sweets, Champions Park in North Arlington continues to offer new dining and retail options for visitors.
Tokyo Joe's was the first business to open earlier this year at Greenway Investment Co.'s $30 million development, located at the northeast corner of Interstate 30 and North Collins in Arlington's Entertainment District. Since then, Firehouse Subs, Tiff's Treats and Cowboys Nail Lounge have opened their doors. Several additional businesses, including sit-down restaurants, are in the works, the developer said. A grand opening celebration is planned for later this fall.
'We've had a very positive reaction. The restaurants that have opened so far are doing really well,' said Christy Hammons, Greenway Investment Company vice president. 'There's a lot of excitement for Champions Park and once we see a few more business names, it will pick up even more.'
Tiff's Treats is one of the newest businesses to open at Champions Park in North Arlington.
Tiff's Treats, which offers warm cookie deliveries, was the most recent business to open. Crowds flocked to the store during the July 22 grand opening to try out brownies, chocolate chip cookies and other delectable desserts.
'For us, the Arlington store is starting to bridge that gap between our Dallas market and the Fort Worth store. We've wanted to hold out for a location that works well for our operations as well as our customers,' said Jeff Sartor, executive vice president of marketing for Tiff's Treats. 'We're pleased with the spot we have here at Champions Park.'
BurgerFi is set to begin serving up gourmet burgers, hot dogs, shakes and custard to customers as soon as next week, Hammons said. About a half dozen more businesses are also expected to open at the 54,000-square-foot development by the end of the year. Those include Urban Bricks Pizza Co., Yumilicious Frozen Yogurt, Torchy's Tacos, The Halal Guys, Social House, Salata and Rocket Fizz, which is an old fashion candy store.
Torchy's Tacos is one of several businesses expected to open this year in Champions Park.
Urban Bricks Pizza Co., which will be located on the second floor, will offer diners a patio seating area with spectacular views of AT&T Stadium and the Entertainment District. Social House will be the development's first sit-down restaurant to open.
Champions Park broke ground in December 2015and is part of the Arlington City Council's priority to 'Invest in Our Economy.' The first phase of Champions Park will have a 70-30 mix of restaurants and retail. Phase two is still in the early planning stages.
The development's restaurant/retail building is currently about 60 percent leased and Greenway is also working on ground leases for two of its four pad sites, which are destined to be full-service restaurants. Other types of businesses are expected.
The City of Arlington continues its efforts to create jobs, attract more visitors, and maintain a desirable environment for businesses, such as Champions Park. Strategic economic development allows Arlington to build its commercial tax base while keeping the tax rate low so the city can continue to provide the high-quality services- such as police, fire, parks, and libraries- that our residents expect.
'Between Champions Park and Texas Live! and all the new development popping up, North Arlington should be very excited about all the progress that is happening. It's really changing the face of the area,' Hammons said.
