Eddy Peach, former Lamar High School coach and Peach Elementary namesake, died Friday, Dec. 15.
Mr. Peach, who was 76, had worked in the Arlington Independent School District for 45 years, including four decades as the Lamar head football coach. On Aug. 29, 2008, Mr. Peach became the first head coach to win 300 games at the Class 5A level (current Class 6A level), and he retired in 2010 with 310 wins.
Mr. Peach began his teaching and coaching career in 1965 at Carter Junior High. He spent four years at Arlington High School as a physical education teacher, junior varsity football coach and head baseball coach.
The high school football coaching legend was inducted into both the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame and the Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor.
Peach Elementary School, which opened last year at 2020 Baird Farm Road, is named for Eddy and his wife Debbie Peach.
Visitation for Mr. Peach is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 20 at Moore Funeral Home Chapel, 1219 N. Davis Dr. in Arlington. The memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 21 at Lamar Baptist Church, 1000 W. Lamar Blvd.
