Employees with City of Arlington's Code Compliance Services are working to keep Arlington beautiful in a number of ways, including its successful graffiti removal program.
Code Enforcement Technician Kirk Coppedge, who is retiring this week after being with the department since 2006, is one the people who has played a vital role in this program.
Kirk has helped develop effective and aesthetically pleasing graffiti removal methods that will have a lasting impact on the beautification of Arlington and Code Compliance Services.
West District Field Operations Manager Misty Gutierrez says it is the goal of Code Compliance to remove graffiti in such a way that residents can't tell it was ever there.
"Prior to Code Compliance assuming responsibility for graffiti abatement on private property, residents were required to remove the graffiti from their properties," said Gutierrez. "Where we stand today, the City offers free graffiti removal for property owners with their consent."
In fact, over the past nine years, Kirk has conducted approximately 3,900 abatements and removed 86,000 illegal bandit signs across The American Dream City.
The mission of Arlington's Code Compliance Services is to foster healthy and attractive neighborhoods by gaining compliance of property maintenance and health codes.
