On July 23, 2015, the Arlington Fire Department held a celebration at the Fire Training Center to reunite several cardiac arrest survivors with the EMS personnel who saved their lives.
According to the American Heart Association, the odds that a person will survive going into sudden cardiac arrest are one in 10. However, survival rates for cardiac arrest victims in Arlington are among the best in the nation.
In fact, the Arlington EMS System recently made its 100th cardiac arrest save since implementing the Cardiocerebral Resuscitation (CCR) Protocol in June of 2011.
CCR, or hands-only CPR with just chest compressions, has been proven to be as effective as CPR with breaths in treating adult cardiac arrest victims until advance medical care can be provided.
