On the Clock: Green Initiatives at Arlington Parks & Rec’s Tierra Verde Golf Club
On the Clock is a show that gives residents an inside look at the hard work city employees do every day to make Arlington a better community to live, learn, work and play.
This month's episode, hosted by City Manager Trey Yelverton, gives residents a behind-the-scenes look at how the Arlington Parks and Recreation Department has implemented green initiatives at the award-winning Tierra Verde Golf Club, located at 7005 Golf Club Dr, Arlington, TX 76001.
Tierra Verde is the first golf course in Texas and the first municipal course in the world to be certified as an Audubon Signature Sanctuary. This prestigious designation is only awarded to developments designed and built using Audubon's sustainable resource management principles.
These principles include wildlife conservation and habitat enhancement, water quality management and conservation, energy efficiency, waste reduction and pest management.
Each year, Arlington Parks and Recreation and the City's Water Utilities Department host Grease for Greens at Tierra Verde. Residents are encouraged to bring their used cooking oil to grease from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. on December 9, 2017. The cooking oil is used to make biodiesel to fuel the lawnmowers at the golf course.
