Acts of Kindness: Youth Surprise Fire Station 16 Crew with Thank You Cards and Treats
Youth involved in a local nonprofit organization recently dropped off cards and tasty treats for the crew atFire Station 16 in south Arlington as a way of say thanks for all they do to make the community safer.
The group of students who brought the gifts participate in Communities Building Living STREAMS of Hope, a nonprofit that partners with schools, families, churches and community agencies to provide preventative care, resources and tools to men, women and children who have experience trauma.
"Our first responders, they don't get enough praise. It's a time of being thankful and grateful," said Benita Ibrahim, an Arlington resident and author who heads up Communities Building Living STREAMS of Hope."We wanted to bring little desserts and goodies and nuts and fruit baskets to say thank you and how much we appreciate all they do in the community. I think it's important for the youth in our community to see that and be able to give back."
The students visit to the fire station is just one example of the small, heartfelt acts of kindness that are occurring in the Arlington community every day.
"Not only were the kids intrigued with the knowledge and strength each of these men had, but their humility and brotherhood was so apparent," said Ibrahim, who also serves on Arlington's Community Relations Commission."The students learned so much by simply showing kindness to those who are so important to our community."
As part of our Kindness Initiative, Mayor Jeff Williams has challenged residents to report acts of kindness through the City's free Ask Arlington mobile app, on the Acts of Kindness website, or by posting using #ArlingtonKindness and @CityofArlington over the next year.
