School's (ALMOST) out for summer! The Arlington Parks & Recreation Department is gearing up for a great summer to help fill those weeks with fun.
Registration is now under way for full-day summer camps at all our recreation centers. We also have an excellent X-Treme Teen and Elevate Camps for those older campers, as well as the new Great Outdoors Camp at Lake Arlington.
If a full-day program isn't what you're looking for, check out the wide variety of mini camps held at different recreation centers, along with the Junior Golf Camp and Tennis Camps.
Full day camps offer a new theme each week with P.E. style games, arts and crafts and other fun activities. Campers swim at least one a week at a nearby pool. Six field trips are planned throughout the summer as well as a few on-site trips where we bring to fun to us! Full-day camps are for ages 5 through 12 and take place at Cliff Nelson, Dottie Lynn and Hugh Smith recreation centers. Camps run 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., June 4 to Aug 17. Camp will be closed on July 4. Daily rates available.
Elzie Odom Athletic Center offers sports-focused day camps with field trips and swim days as well. These sports camps feature all sorts of organized sports to offer kids a chance to learn new games, skills and make new friends. Daily rates available.
X-Treme Teen Camp is perfect for those too old for regular camp, but still want to be have a structured, adventure-filled summer. Each day features new, exciting activities at the center coupled with several field trips each week exploring the Metroplex. Some of the trips include attending a WNBA Dallas Wings basketball game, Speedzone and Six Flags Over Texas. We'll be making waves at a few water parks including NRH2O and Six Flags Hurricane Harbor. X-Treme Teen camp is perfect for ages 11 to 15. This camp runs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., June 4 to Aug 17.
The Great Outdoors is so much more than camp! Experience an adventure like no other with this new camp! We will focus on the development of outdoor skills including canoeing, fishing, archery, fort-building and all things relating to nature. Conservation education will also be emphasized while experienced outdoor enthusiasts plan activities throughout the summer. Weekly swimming and field trips will round out each fun-filled week. The Great Outdoors perfect for ages 5 to 12 and is held at Lake Arlington June 18 to Aug 17. No camp will be held the week of July 2 to July 6. Mini camps are also a choice at either 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Mini camp options include archery, cooking, ninja, volleyball, space, cheerleading, clay creations, and much, much more! Mini camps are held weekly between June 11 and Aug 17. Check out the mini camp schedule at each center to find the perfect one for you and your camper. Most mini camps are for elementary-aged kids, although some preschool-aged programs are also available.
