Youth Baseball World Series in Arlington Draws More Than 35 Teams from Across Texas
American Sporting Events held its youth Baseball World Series at Randol Mill Park and other Arlington fields this past weekend.
More than 35 teams from around the state traveled to Arlington parks to play in the 6th annual tournament. The Series was coordinated by American Sporting Events Inc., of Norman, Oklahoma.
"ASE relocated the event to Arlington because the city was is a centralized location for the Metroplex and believed that it would be a big draw to teams, " ASE Administrator James Sullivan said.
This was the first time the event was held in Arlington, and it is one of 40 tournaments being hosted at Randol Mill Park this year.
"We were excited to have the event be hosted in Arlington because of the benefits it provides throughout city, " Derek DeBusk, Manager for the Parks and Recreation Department said.
Gary Packan, Parks Assistant Director, recently presented findings to City Council showing more than $1 million will be generated in sales from dining, shopping, fuel and lodging as a result of tournament bookings. The Parks and Recreation Department is already planning field registrations for 2017 with an estimated 40 to 42 weekends being requested.
"The way the City of Arlington has stepped up to the plate to make this a special occasion for the teams has had an overwhelmingly positive response from the participants, " Sullivan said. "The relationship with the city parks department has made this an easy choice for ASE to host future tournaments. "
