Small businesses play a vital role in creating jobs and growth in The Dream City’s economy, and one local organization wants to recognize two local ventures for their efforts.
The Arlington Chamber of Commerce recently announced the recipients for the 2015 Arlington Chamber Small Business of the Year Awards.
FOR-PROFIT CATEGORY:
- LBL Architects, Inc. – Celebrating 50 years of practice in Arlington, LBL Architects specializes in institutional projects providing a full range of design services. The firm has designed an array of Arlington landmarks, which include the Elzie Odem Athletic Center, Arlington Animal Services Center, The West and South Police Service Center, over 1,000,000 square feet of THR Arlington Memorial Hospital and Outpatient Centers, over 25 Schools for Arlington ISD and the award-winning Tarrant County Sub-courthouse in Arlington (the first LEED courthouse in the State of Texas).
NONPROFIT CATEGORY:
- Boys & Girls Club of Arlington – Service guides young people, especially those who need them the most, to reach their full potential through academic success, character and healthy lifestyles. Since 1959, the Boys & Girls Club of Arlington ensures success is within reach of every child. Each year more than 5,000 children are served through local programs, regardless of economic, cultural or academic circumstances.
The Chamber’s criteria for selection of the Small Businesses of the Year include growth, relevant innovation, and contributions toward building a sustainable community. The recipients will be honored at the May 14 “Spirit of America: 2015 Salute to Small Business” luncheon hosted by the Arlington Chamber of Commerce, the U.S. Small Business Administration and The North Texas Small Business Development Center.
“We are proud to recognize the significant accomplishments of our award recipients,” stated Wes Jurey, President and CEO of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce. “Our businesses of the year are managed by bright and highly motivated people who are committed to superior service and making a difference in the lives of people and the entire community.”
The “Salute to Small Business” luncheon will be held at the Sheraton Arlington Hotel commencing at 11:30 a.m. with business-building seminars and an “Expo” beginning at 9:15 a.m. The ceremony will be emceed by local television celebrity Scott Murray. Scott hosts Talk Street on NBC 5, is a co-host on the Texas Daily show on KTXD-TV, while also hosting The Scott Murray Show about “leadership and philanthropy” every Sunday night from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on radio 570 KLIF. He is also a published author of two books (Whatever It Takes and Bring out the BEST).
Businesses are encouraged to participate in the “Salute to Small Business,” as both public and private small businesses representing 72 counties from North Texas will be honored at the event. The Small Business Administration will recognize the Small Business Person of the Year, Owner of the Year, Women in Business Champion of the Year, Veteran’s Business of the Year, Minority Small Business of the Year, and others. Winners are from Arlington, Dallas, Fort Worth, Pilot Point, Marshall, Waco and Pilot Point.
