Join the Friends and Foundation of the Arlington Public Library for the Spring Book and Author Luncheon. This semiannual fundraiser, which will take place Thursday, April 19 at the Shady Valley Country Club, gives attendees the chance to meet local authors Roger Broom and Joe Wilkins. Tickets are required to attend and are available to purchase online. As always, all Luncheon proceeds benefit the Arlington Public Library.

Roger Broom was born and grew up on a small dairy farm in Wisconsin and then moved on to a variety of career experiences. He served four years in the U.S. Navy as a weapons fire control technician followed by another four years as a computer systems analyst at General Electric and WESCO, a Washington D.C. engineering firm. Next, Roger worked for 30 years with the General Services Administration's Information Technology Service in Washington and Fort Worth.

After his move to Texas in 1970, Roger earned a BBA at Texas Christian University and then an MBA focused on Finance from the University of Texas Arlington. Roger's two novels, Messin' with Medusa, a crime novel, and Scorned Vulgate, a mystery, focus on modern-day Texas, Fort Worth & Tarrant County.

After retiring from the teaching faculty of the University of Illinois at Springfield, Joe Wilkins focused his backpacking adventures in and around Gates of the Arctic National Park in Alaska. He was invited by the National Park Service to serve as a Volunteer Backcountry Patroller and assisted the backcountry operations of the NPS with his experience and expertise. Between 2005 and 2017, he completed more than fifty trips through some of the most remote and rugged mountainous wilderness areas of North America.

Gates of the Arctic National Park: Twelve Years of Wilderness Exploration provides current, thorough and detailed information about this unrivaled park together with spectacular photography of its mountains, animals, lakes and rivers. Wilkins has created a definitive, perennial book about one of the country's most enchanting national parks that will stand the test of time. It is no surprise that Wilkins consistently describes this park as the nation's most magnificent national park!

The Spring Book and Author Luncheon is April 19, 2018 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Shady Valley Country Club. Tickets are $30 a plate and are required to attend. Tickets are available online.
