Arlington area water customers will go into the summer season with no water restrictions for the first time since June 2013 thanks to the record rainfall that filled area lakes.
Water levels at Lake Arlington has reached 100 percent capacity, thanks to recent storms in the area. According to the Tarrant County Water District (TRWD), system capacity has exceeded 100 percent. The combined storage capacity supply is made up of Richland Chambers Reservoir, Cedar Creek Reservoir, Lake Bridgeport and Eagle Mountain Lake.
Data shows that the recent rains are not the only reason for easing the restrictions. Conservation measures implemented by water customers have helped reduce demands by an 39 percent during a period of peak use, saving an estimated 112 million gallons per day.
City leaders are encouraging water customers to continue water conservation efforts to ensure an increased supply in the future.
The water district provides raw water to nearly 2 million people in the North Texas area, including about 98 percent of Tarrant County's population.
