What does summer vacation mean for most 14-year-olds? Hanging out, staying up late and sleeping-in?

Well, for Carson Bold, it means the chance to give back to the community by helping children in need with the proceeds he earns from his annual lemonade stand.

Every year around Father's Day, Carson sells lemonade and takes donations at his LemonAID Stand Fundraiser, using the proceeds to provide fun activities for children at domestic violence shelters run by SafeHaven.

When Carson was a young boy, seeing kids less privileged than himself at a SafeHaven shelter inspired him to help out however he could.

So in 2006, he ran his first lemonade stand to raise money for these kids, and it brought in $22. Nine years later, his stands bring in roughly $1,200 each year.

In addition, he started a nonprofit organization called Carson Cares in 2007. It now has more than 719 volunteers pledging a total of 1,829 volunteer hours and raising $17,000 since its inception.

Carson Cares hosts many charitable events, including the Season of Giving drive at Bailey Junior High School. During the fall, they collect gifts to give to children who could really use them.

"I would like to continue Carson Cares for the rest of my life," says Carson, a sure sign of his commitment to helping those in need.
