One step closer to realizing his dream of becoming an Olympic sprinter, UT Arlington's Clayton Vaughn is preparing for his final race of the season at the USA Track and Field Championships taking place June 25-28 in Eugene, Oregon.
One of the most decorated athletes in school history, Clayton finished his storied collegiate career by earning All-America honors in the 100 meters. That earned him the distinction of being just the fourth UTA athlete to claim at least six All-America honors.
Sprint coach Jordan Durham has watched Clayton overcome injuries and personal tragedy to become of the most prolific sprinters in the nation.
So, how would she react to Clayton running into the record books next week?
"It would be a dream come true...top three spots," said Durham, a three-time All-American in her own right while attending Arizona State University. "That's the stamp of 'you're at that next level; you're here to do work, especially before an Olympic year.'"
Listen to what Clayton has to say about preparing for his last race as a Maverick.
