It will be nearly two years before the new $30 million George W. Hawkes Central Library opens but residents still have a place to check out books and work on public computers downtown.
KERA recently spotlighted the City of Arlington's transformation of an old water utilities building on Cooper Street into the Central Library Express. The temporary location offers residents access to books and a few computers while the new downtown library is under construction.
'We wanted some place patrons could come get what they needed,' Norma Zuniga, Operations and Facilities Administrator told KERA. 'Have computer access, which is in big demand in this part of town. And so here we are.'
The City of Arlington celebrated the groundbreaking of the future downtown library on May 31.
