Arlington's Office of Emergency Management is monitoring a tropical disturbance in the west central Gulf of Mexico, which is expected to move through central and northern Texas Tuesday and Wednesday.

This system is likely to produce heavy rain and flash flooding will be a major threat Tuesday through Wednesday morning.

The primary window for heavy rainfall over North and Central Texas will be 3 p.m. Tuesday through 6 a.m. Thursday.

Arlington Emergency Management is most concerned about intense rainfall occurring in some locations (mainly along/S of I-20) during the nighttime hours Tuesday night/Wednesday morning (8 p.m. - 8 a.m.) and again area-wide Wednesday night/early Thursday (6 p.m. - 6 a.m.).

Arlington's system includes two weather cameras, one on the south side of City Hall and another on the north side. From these vantage points, we can get real time images of storms from any direction as they blow into Arlington.

There is also a weather station on City Hall to provide regular updates on the temperature, wind speed, wind direction, wind chill and rainfall totals.

The weather station also tracks rainfall amounts for the month.

Residents and business owners in Arlington can pick up 25 free sandbags from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to protect their property from rising flood waters at the City's North Service Center at 801 W. Main St.

They need to bring a water bill or driver's license with current Arlington address.
